Volunteering at Paloma
Helping the PTA
- Become a board member. A nominating
committee is formed in February and elections are held in April. Contact a
current board member for more information
- Chair
a committee, organize an event, or coordinate a program. Despite our
dedicated volunteers, there are always vacancies in leadership positions.
- Join a committee. We're always looking for
additional help.
Even if you can only spare a little time, we can find something for you to do.
- Volunteer to help with an event. There
are several throughout the year. The spring carnival is generally the most
complicated to plan and requires a lot of volunteers.
Parent volunteers are needed to help organize and staff each event. Event
staffing is generally done in 1/2 hour shifts to allow volunteers a chance
to enjoy the events with their families.
- Help with fundraising or
donations. Do you have contacts that
could help the PTA with fundraising or donations of goods, services, or cash?
Are you willing to solicit donations from local businesses?
- Let us know what you're good at. We might not even know we need you yet!
Making it Easier for YOU to Volunteer
The Paloma PTA believes strongly in the power of parents and community
members to make a difference at Paloma Elementary. If something is
keeping you from volunteering, let a board member know and we'll see
what we can do to help. Here are a few programs that we hope make it
easier for you to volunteer.
- Volunteer Badges: If you plan to volunteer regularly, consider
contacting a board member about having a volunteer badge made for
you. (You will still need to sign in at the office.) This will save you time as you enter the school since you will
no longer need to fill out a visitor sticker. It will also be easier
for others to identify you as a volunteer.
- Helping Hands Program: This program trains volunteers for workroom
tasks and collects work orders from teachers for volunteers to
complete. This is a great way to help the whole school and doesn't
require a huge commitment. To get started or for more information,
contact a board member.
- Reading Lab: This is a structured reading program requiring no
literacy expertise. A half hour per week would make a big difference in
the reading fluency and comprehension of our young readers. This program
is coordinated by the school literacy specialist. Contact the school
office for more information.
- Off-hours Volunteering: For the many parents (moms and dads) who
work during the school day, there are many opportunities to volunteer
during whatever spare time you have.
If you are interested in volunteering, but can't help during the school
day, please contact a board member for more information about these and
other volunteer opportunities. Email Lisa Bjotvedt when you volunteer outside of
school to be entered in the volunteer appreciation prize drawings.
- The donations committee needs volunteers to send letters and make phone calls.
- Web updates can be done at any time.
- Many school and PTA events happen in the evenings or on
the weekends and volunteer help is needed to plan and run these events.
Volunteer Appreciation
The Paloma PTA is blessed with many volunteers
who give of their time and talents to make Kyrene de la Paloma Elementary a
better school for our children.
Enter your name in the volunteer box in the office when you volunteer at school. A name will be drawn from this box at each PTA meeting for a volunteer appreciation prize. (If you volunteer, but not at school, email Kathi Hausmann to be entered in the drawing.)
PTA Spotlight:
A great big thank you goes to the Ice Cream Social Committee. This is always a
great event and this year was certainly no exception. THANKS!
